Martha Tinley (c 1831 -     )

Biography


Martha Tinley, daughter of George and Ann Tinley, formerly Guiler, was born abt 1831, in Basford, Nottinghamshire. At the time of the 1851 England census, at the age of 20 years, Martha was unmarried and living at home with her parents at George Street.  At the time of the 1861 census her age is recorded as 32, making her birth year 1829. She was employed as a Lace Mender, and still unmarried and living with her widowed mother at 43 George Street, Basford.

Martha married James Smith in the Sept Qtr 1875 at Basford (7b 274). James Smith, 20 years her senior and was a Master Joiner employing two men, he was born  abt. 1810 in Alfreton.

At the time of the 1881 England census they were living at 46 Rye Street. Martha was a Smallware dealer silk. 

They employed a General Domestic Servant called Mary Staples who was aged 14 years.
